My Story- Overview of My Journey Coach
My Journey Coach was launched in 2022 because we saw a need in our community for NDIS support that was specific to mental health (NDIS psychosocial). We ventured to supply this need by having a dedicated and compassionate team of qualified Mental Health Support Workers and Psychosocial Recovery Coach/Support Coordinator to help assist individuals living with a psychosocial disability meet and reach their goals. My Journey Coach is a service provider for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
- Recovery Oriented Approach
Our trained Mental Health Support Workers along with our recovery-oriented service delivery approach, provides a comprehensive and effective wraparound support service for people living with a mental health condition. Our supports are proven to enable you to build a meaningful and purposeful life, during your recovery journey.
- The NDIS defines recovery as: “… achieving an optimal state of personal, social and emotional wellbeing, as defined by each individual, whilst living with, or recovering from a mental health condition.”
- In everyday communication, we often use the word “recover” to mean “get better”. However, it might seems like recovery is at odds with the idea of permanent impairment.
- Actually, when it comes to mental health conditions, recovery is about living the best possible life for you, even if you continue to experience symptoms of mental health conditions.

We aim to work closely with individuals, as well as their care team, to ensure effective service delivery. Our Wellbeing Coach is with you every step of the way during your NDIS journey. They apply a specialist mental health wellbeing service delivery practice framework so that you can live a fulfilling life.
Our supports inspire hope, as we apply our knowledge along with our tailored personalised support approach, to better enable you to achieve your goals.
What Can We Do for You?
We can support participants with community participation access, capacity building support and Psychosocial Recovery Coach.
Community participation and access
Category under the Core supports budget – Assistance with social and Community Participation- includes supports that help you participate in community activities like recreation, education, training and employment.
For example, someone to transport you to and from a training course or community activity. These supports may be provided individually or in groups, depending on your needs.
We understand that it can be difficult to enagage in the community all by yourself. Our Wellbeing Coach can help support you to socialise and connect with others. These could include art classes or attending sports that have capacity building, mentoring, peer support or individual skill development components.
Capacity building support
Capacity Building suports are intended to build your independance and reduce the need for the same level of support into the future.
Capacity Building funding can be used for activities that support you in learning new skills and becoming more independent. For example, you might need help to build social relationships, learn to manage your money or find a job.
Our Wellbeing Coach can help you work toward goals that can build your capacity, independence and autonomy. Further examples could include accessing public transport and include training, advice and help you to move from school to further education, such as university or TAFE.
Psycosocial Recovery Coach and Support Coordination
A Psychosocial Recovery Coach is an NDIS funded support for people with a primary disability of mental health. Our qualified Psychosocial Recovery Coaches support individuals with psychosocial disability to recognise, reflect and take responsibility of their own recovery. They work collaboratively with individuals, their families, carers and other services to design and implement a recovery plan and help with the coordination of other NDIS supports.
What does a recovery coach do?
Recovery coaches work with individuals with psychosocial disability to:
- Develop a recovery-enabling relationship
- Increase awareness of choice and control
- Identify individual goals and develop strategies to achieve them
- Provide ongoing support and engagement (even in times of increased needs due to variation in individual mental illness)
- Build individual capacity, increase recovery skills, resilience and decision making.
How is it different to a support coordinator?
A support coordinator’s main focus is capacity building and working with an individual to get the most out of an NDIS plan. Individuals do not need a specific diagnosis to have support coordination as part of their NDIS plan. A psychosocial recovery coach is specifically designed for individuals who have a primary diagnosis of psychosocial disability.
Recovery coaches offer a more hands-on approach, using their specific knowledge of mental health services. They ensure individuals receive the best support to reach their goals. Generally, support coordination and recovery-coaching will not be supported on the same plan.
